Al Mezan is accepting applications for two full-time positions at our HQ in Gaza City:

(1) Advocacy Officer

Duties and responsibilities:

The Advocacy Officer will support the work of the local and international advocacy departments and will fulfill the following main responsibilities:

• Draft and edit press releases, reports, statements and submissions, including to UN bodies;
• Support strategy development, planning and implementation of local and international advocacy;
• Prepare and participate in advocacy missions and meetings;
• Support outreach and communications with partner organizations and stakeholders;
• Assist in management of legal, advocacy and visibility components of project work.

Qualifications:

• Excellent command of written and spoken English and fluent in Arabic;
• Master’s degree in human rights, international relations, law, political science or related field;
• In depth knowledge of the applicable international legal framework in Palestine, and the Gaza Strip in particular;
• Minimum 3 years’ experience in human rights advocacy;
• Proactive, organized, able to work independently, and possessing a keen eye for detail.

(2) Arabic-English Translator

Duties and responsibilities:

The Translator will support the work of the Center’s communications, advocacy and international relations through the following main responsibilities:

• Translating press releases/statements, news briefs, factsheets, position papers, reports and any other human rights related materials (50-60%)
• Translating testimonials/affidavits taken from victims of human rights abuses for case files and/or advocacy (10%)
• Translating communications with the Israeli authorities and/or international justice mechanisms (10%)
• Translating the Center’s annual narrative report (5%)
• Providing simultaneous interpretation when needed (5%)
• Contributing to other activities upon the request of his/her direct supervisor (10%)

Qualifications:

Essential qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in English
• Excellent command of spoken and written English and Arabic
• A minimum of 3 years of experience in Arabic-English translation
• Competency in relevant computer software
• TOEFL, IELTS, or any other internationally recognized language test (with excellent score)
