Eligibility criteria

Minimum age: 22 years old. Applicants must be nationals of or legal residents in the country of assignment.

Description of task

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of the Health and Nutrition Specialist or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the
UN Volunteer will provide assistance to the Health and Nutrition (H&N) section to:

  1. Support the preparation of necessary technical specifications and tenders during the implementation of the projects, in coordination with different partners
  2. Support the Health and Nutrition program in the bidding process as required by the H&N and Supply section
  3. Monitor running project works with different partners and ensure that they are done as per technical specifications and engineering drawings
  4. Review the contractor’s and partners work schedules and updates, and report any issue to the H&N Specialist
  5. Closely monitor the work progress to ensure compliance with the project duration and cost
  6. Measure, record, and review payment requests for the executed works submitted by the contractors
  7. Prepare weekly briefings and reports to UNICEF H&N Specialist and the Section Chief
  8. Ensure detailed records are kept for all construction activities, enabling real-time tracking of construction progress
  9. Conduct field assessments and monitoring visits to assure the standard quality of materials to be provided and/or provided (specifications and installation), in West Bank
  10. Draft monthly reports on the progress of the work and submit to the UNICEF H&N Specialist in Jerusalem.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Required degree level
  • Bachelor degree or equivalent

  • BA degree in Civil / construction / or structural engineering.
  • Required experience
  • 36 Months

Experience remark

  • At least 3 year of professional work experience in civil / construction / structural engineering at the national level within health sector; experience working in the UN or other international development organization is an asset;
  • Demonstrated interest and/or experience in supervising field.
  • Organizational and management skills; efficiency in work
  • Ability to work in a team and form productive, supportive & professional relationships with all.
  • Excellent oral and written skills; excellent drafting, formulation, reporting skills in English;
  • Accuracy and professionalism in document production and editing;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; culturally and socially sensitive; ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners, including grassroots community members, religious and youth organizations, and authorities at different levels; familiarity with tools and approaches of communications for development;
  • Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment; ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel;
    • Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.), AutoCAD and MS Project, and email/internet; familiarity with database management; and office technology equipment;
  • Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision; ability to work with tight deadlines;
  • Sound security awareness;

Have affinity with or interest in human relief, volunteerism as a mechanism for durable development, and the UN System.
