JOB SUMMARY

The University seeks a well-rounded and experienced manager to oversee its engineering activities, facility management, landscaping, and safety and security. The Chief Engineer is a senior position and will be expected to build and manage an appropriate team and to manage the relationships and oversee the work of multiple service providers.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

In concert and collaboration with the Executive Director, Director of Guest Services and relevant colleagues from the University, the Chief Engineer is responsible for the following:

• Drafts and executes long-term maintenance and safety plans for the facility.
• Ensures an ongoing maintenance operation for the property and building specific maintenance including refrigeration, plumbing, water treatment, air/heating units, lighting, kitchen equipment, emergency generators, etc.
• Ensures property and equipment stand in line with applicable guidelines and regulations, notifying and suggesting proper remediation action for management when appropriate.
• Maintains accurate records for all vehicles functioning status, monitors their repairs and timely service, in addition to their annual insurance and registration procedures.
• Orders material and completes work assignments on time and by a specified date.
• Hires and supervises external contractors when needed (e.g. technicians, construction workers etc.). This includes leading and/or supporting the drafting of requests for proposals when needed.
• Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet production schedules, recommends measures to improve production.
• Implements, monitors and keeps record of all health and safety certifications, including but not limited to fire alarm, fume hoods, gas and fuel systems, electricity supply compliance, fire extinguishers, etc.
• Ensures the university complies with its emergency response plan and emergency action plan.
• Supervises one or more of the following positions: Maintenance Supervisor and workers, Security Supervisor and workers, Landscaping and Gardening workers.
• Maintains and supervises the safety and security of our guests, employees, and buildings and ensure to respond to all emergency alerts timely and efficiently.
• Controls security systems including security patrols, surveillance systems, alarm systems, and access points, control of restricted areas, and maintains master keys.
• Initiating and maintaining policies procedures for general safety and security.
• Training of staff for emergency procedures.
• Inspections relating to university’s security.
• Supervising the security team effectively, checking that security staff doing their job properly.
• Keeping up-to-date with world news, security and pandemic trends, as well as of other duties.

SELECTION CRITERIA

• At least 8 years of relevant work experience.
• A relevant degree/certificate (e.g. engineering, technician, etc.)
• Exceptional organizational and communication skills, and excellent interpersonal and management skills working within a multicultural, inter-faith team.
• Strong sense of character, integrity, work ethic, and commitment to developing and sustaining relationships with a diverse constituency.
• Ability to communicate in either Hebrew and/or Arabic.
• Ability to communicate in English is an asset.
• Right to work and to drive in Israel required.
