Consultant – Assistant Structural Design Engineer, Design Unit - HQ Gaza (Local)

BACKGROUND

The consultant will be responsible for supporting Structural Design Engineer, Design Unit, HQ Gaza to form design duties (calculation, modeling, drafting, quantities take-off and BOQ/specification development) at Design Unit - UNRWA HQ (Gaza) according to UNRWA’s policy and procedures.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Has a wide knowledge and experience in design resources, which specified for drawing and calculations.
• Assist in preparing tender documents (Structural works part) through systematic procedure compatible with other works.
• Assist in preparing technical specifications for materials specified during design works.
• Commits to hand-over time of design works according to drawn plan by direct supervisor.
• Archives all done works versus time.
• Prepares itemized BOQ and cost estimate for works designed by staff.
• Performs market research for materials to be used during design and still updated with international markets.
• Performs such other duties as may be assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

• A university degree from an accredited educational institution in Civil/Structural Engineering.
• A minimum of two years’ experience in Structural design (building concrete works).
• Strong ability in use of computers in design and Drafting development (mainly SAFE, ETAB, Prokon, AutoCAD software).
• Relevant background in structural works design and drafting for building project (i.e. schools, health centers, housing project).

DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE

• Ability to use Outlook, Excel and Word application.
• Strong reporting skills.

COMPETENCES

• Good communications skills;
• Ability to work under pressure;
• Team spirit and ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships;
• Good command of spoken and written English.

CONDITIONS OF SERVICE

• The duration of the consultancy is 6-11 months with the expected start date of January 2020.
• Remuneration for this consultancy will depend on the qualifications and experience of the candidate.
• The incumbent will be based in Gaza.
