UNRWA’s human development goals UNRWA is funded almost entirely by voluntary contributions from UN member states, regional bodies, business foundations and individual contributions. UNRWA has identified four human development goals as the focus of the Agency’s operations in committing to fostering human development of Palestine refugees by helping them to: lead long and healthy lives, acquire knowledge and skills, achieve decent standards of living and enjoy human rights to the fullest possible extent.

The main responsibilities include:

In accordance with established Agency policy and procedures, the incumbent:

(A) Medical Examination

  • Provides general outpatient services and other special services, including maternal and child health, control of non- communicable disease as well as for hospital referrals.
  • Performs medical examination of applicants for special hardship assistance, newly recruited staff, periodic medical examination of existing staff and extension beyond retirement; participates in medical boards and retifies sick leaves for staff.

(B) Management of the Health Centre

  • Manages the health centre to which he/ she is assigned, including organization of services, personnel supervision, supply management and reporting.
  • Supervises the work of medical, nursing and para- medical staff in the health centre to which he/ she is assigned and evaluates their performance.
  • Maintains relationships with local community and local authorities.
  • Ensures availability of medicine and medical supplies in terms of quantity, quality and validity, oversees ordering and receipt of these items; raises survey reports for items which are not operational or expired and ensures the destruction process.
  • Participates in on- the- job and in- service training of other staff in accordance with the approved plans.

(C) Performs other duties as may be required.

Conditions of service

Monthly basic salary JD1,706.42 Other benefits include:

  • Provident Fund contribution (15% of basic salary paid by the Agency).
  • Dependency allowances (if applicable).
  • 30 days of annual leave.

Compulsory medical insurance.

To qualify for this position, you will need:

Education: A medical degree from a recognized university including an internship of at least twelve- month duration. A valid governmental license to practice medicine in the country of duty station.

Work experience: At least five years of satisfactory professional working experience.

Language(s): Good command of spoken and written English and Arabic.

You will also need to demonstrate the following competencies:

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Good command of medical terminology.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills, sound judgement and problem- solving skills.
  • Supervisory skills and ability to develop staff.
  •  Excellent analytical and reporting ability.
  • Proficiency in UNRWA standard computer applications with specific focus on Health Information System. Ability to work under pressure and cope with heavy workload.

Desirable qualifications: Post- graduate degree or diploma in public health, family health or other related discipline.
