Mechanical Design Consultant, Design Unit - HQ Gaza (Local)

BACKGROUND

The consultant will be responsible for supporting Mechanical Design Engineer, Design Unit, HQ Gaza to form design duties (calculation, modeling, drafting, quantities take-off and BOQ/specification development) at Design Unit - UNRWA HQ (Gaza) according to UNRWA’s policy and procedures.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Assist in preparing tender documents (mechanical and sanitary works part) through systematic procedure compatible with other works. This includes: Design and development of Heat Ventilation and Air Conditioning systems (HVAC), Fire Fighting systems, Internal water supply and sewage systems/networks, mechanical works for water wells, sewage pumping stations and/or water desalination systems., and other mechanical related design works, all to high specifications, focusing on economy, safety, reliability, quality and sustainability.
• Assist in preparing technical specifications for materials specified during design works.
• Commit to hand-over time of design works according to drawn plan by direct supervisor.
• Archive all done works versus time.
• Prepare itemized BOQ and cost estimate for works designed by staff.
• Perform market research for materials to be used during design and still updated with international markets.
• Perform such other duties as may be assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

• A university degree from an accredited educational institution in Mechanical Engineering.
• A minimum of two years’ relevant experience in Mechanical design projects (building works mainly).
• Strong ability in use of computers in design and drafting development (mainly AutoCAD software).
• Background in Mechanical works design and implementation for building project including HVAC works (i.e. schools, health centers, housing project) and basic infrastructure (i.e. pumps, small scale desalination units and water wells).

DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE

• Ability to use Outlook, Excel and Word application.
• Possess of a valid driving license.

COMPETENCIES

• Good communications skills;
• Ability to work under pressure;
• Team spirit and ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships;
• Very Good command of spoken and written English.

CONDITIONS OF SERVICE

• The duration of the consultancy is 3 to 11 months with the expected start date of Mid of March 2020;
• Remuneration for this consultancy will depend on the qualifications and experience of the candidate.
• The incumbent will be based in Gaza.
