Psychosocial Counsellor , Grade 10

Contract type & Duration: Fixed-term appointment of 3 years including 1 year probation period, with the possibility of further extension, subject to the availability of funds, satisfactory performance and continued need of the post.

The main responsibilities include:

In accordance with Agency policy and procedures, the incumbent:

(A) Develops a plan of action at the level of his/her functional location and coordinates such actions with UNRWA’s staff therein;

(B) Provides guidance and counselling to individuals and groups and conducts home visits, as appropriate;

(D) Coordinates work with contracted NGOs;

(E) Contributes to the expansion of the network of resources in the community through coordination activities with workers in the psychosocial field;

(G) Develops and conducts activities to raise the awareness in the community as related to mental health, psychosocial well-being, optimum development of children and adolescents; (H) Develops plans for quick crisis intervention, whenever needed, mobilizing if appropriate, programme counsellors working in other functional locations in the same region, as well as other resources in the community;

(I) Prepares monthly reports;

(J) Performs such other duties as may be assigned.

Conditions of service

Monthly basic salary $1050.2 payable in JD. Other benefits include monthly Provident Fund contribution (15.2% of basic salary paid by the Agency), compulsory medical insurance, 30 days of annual leave, and dependency allowance (if applicable).

To qualify for this position, you will need:

Education A university degree in psychology, social work or a related field.

Work experience At least two years of experience in psychosocial counselling.

Language(s) Good command of spoken and written English and Arabic.

You will also need to demonstrate the following competencies:

UN Core Values of Professionalism, Integrity and Respect for Diversity and Core Competencies of Communication, Working with People and Drive for Results apply by default. In addition, the following Functional Competencies apply:

(i) Ability to work under pressure.

(ii) Excellent counselling skills and ability to work with female and male children, adolescents, adults and elderly.

(iii) Good knowledge of animation techniques with children.

(iv) Creativity and ability to take initiatives.

(v) Ability to perform activities such as drawing, painting, music, dancing.

Other Information Preference will be given to Jenin camp, city and surrounding villages. Equivalency: Candidates with an equivalent combination of relevant academic qualifications, professional training and progressive work experience may also be considered if there will not be enough qualified candidates.
